5 de Mayo !!! Viva México !!


 

Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) is celebrated in Mexico to commemorate the defeat of the French army at the hands of the Mexican Navy in 1862 near the city of Puebla. This event is examined in the context of the French invasion of Mexico after President Benito Juarez refused to pay debt owed ​​to France.

Topics to be discussed will be the events proceeding the conflict, the battle, and aftermath. To conclude, Maestra Calderon will discuss the differences between how 5 de Mayo is celebrated in the United States and Mexico.
